Swiss theater history goes digital: 9,000 new entries on Wikidata

Following initial imports in 2024, we are pleased to announce that 9,000 new records on performing arts productions in Switzerland were created on Wikidata in 2025. This was made possible by a partnership established in 2023 between the SAPA Foundation, the Swiss Performing Arts Archive, and the Wikimedia CH association. This brings us closer to the milestone of 50% of all productions documented by the foundation being referenced in Wikidata; the work will continue this year.

For this second milestone, productions from the following Swiss institutions were imported:

  • Basel, Basel Theater (1968–1987): 807 productions
  • Basel, Theater Basel (since 1987): 1,283 productions
  • Bern, Schlachthaus Theater Bern (1997): 431 productions
  • Bern, Theater an der Effingerstrasse (from 1951): 206 productions
  • Chur, Theater Chur (since 1945): 260 productions
  • Geneva, Am Stram Gram (since 2000): 200 productions
  • Geneva, Comédie de Genève (since 1982): 317 productions
  • Geneva, Grand Théâtre de Genève (since 1948): 964 productions
  • Geneva, La Bâtie: 102 productions
  • Geneva, Théâtre Saint-Gervais (since 1993): 345 productions
  • Lausanne, Arsenic (since 1998): 412 productions
  • Lucerne, Lucerne Theater (from 1939): 751 productions
  • Winterthur, Winterthur Summer Theater (since 1935): 928 productions
