The SAPA Foundation received an important private collection of theater postcards in 2023
Introduced in 1869 in Austria-Hungary with the name Correspondence Postcard, the later picture postcard enjoyed growing popularity until it was slowly replaced by electronic means of communication at the beginning of the new millennium.
The collection, carefully and expertly assembled by its collector Ernst Gosteli, is very diverse: exterior and interior shots from different perspectives, with an eye for detail and a flair for specialties. Such cards document theater fires or are intended - as craft sheets - for rebuilding.
The film by collection curator Martin Dreier provides an insight into the content and structure of the collection, which spans a good hundred years of building history.
