How can you recall a dance performance after the curtain has fallen? The SAPA Foundation collects the traces that dance leaves behind.
The diversity of the archive holdings is crucial to preserving the memory of dance: Films, photographs, costumes, stage sets, texts and interviews. Only the interplay of these sources makes it possible to trace the creative process. The archives of Sigurd Leeder's Danse macabre are a good example of this. Thanks to rehearsal photos, film footage, transcriptions and costumes, choreographer Anne Collod was able to restage this important work from 1935 in 2013.
