Autobiographical productions by dancers and choreographers

The SNSF research project Auto_Bio_Graphy als Performance. Ein tanzhistoriografisches Innovationsfeld  led by the Institute of Theatre Studies at the University of Bern in partnership with the SAPA Foundation, was successfully concluded at the end of October 2024.

Across several subprojects, the project examined the potential of autobiographical sources for dance historiography. A particular focus lay on oral history as a form of performative life narrative, analysed on the basis of an extensive corpus on dance-making in Switzerland. The research was based, on the one hand, on existing oral history interviews from SAPA’s holdings and, on the other, on new interviews conducted within the framework of the project. The oral history interviews on Swiss dance-making developed during the project were handed over to the SAPA Foundation to expand the holdings and for long-term archiving.
