He began his dance training in Bern with Edwige Tabadgy and Margrit Brack and continued it at the Lia Schubert Dansakademie in Stockholm, at the Rambert School in London and with Nora Kiss in Paris. After a period with the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas, he danced briefly as a soloist with the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève before becoming principal dancer with the Ballet des Jeunesses Musicales de France. This was followed by engagements with the London Festival Ballet, the National Ballet in Washington and the Ballet Felix Blaska in Paris. His first own choreographies were created in Grenoble.

Back in Switzerland, he danced again at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and took over the artistic direction of the Ensemble chorégraphique de Genève. Together with Philippe Dahlmann, he founded the duo Pit et Phil and worked as a guest choreographer at the Stadttheater Luzern and the Basler Theater. From 1977, he taught classical and modern dance as well as improvisation and opened his own school in Geneva, Espace Danse, in 1982. In 1986, he was involved in the direction of contemporary Swiss ballet and was also president of the Swiss umbrella organization for dance professionals.
