Comprehensive Internship

You will gain comprehensive insight into all areas of our specialist archive and competence centre. After an induction, you will carry out certain tasks independently and contribute to projects. Where possible, we can accommodate individual areas of focus you wish to pursue.

We offer a varied internship with scope for individual initiative in a dynamic, forward-looking archive. The workplace is located directly next to Bern railway station. A modest internship salary is paid.

Duties

• Assisting with the archiving process (from acquisition to valuation)
• Research activities in the areas of the archive and special collections
• Assisting with the practical cataloguing and conservation of holdings, as well as with visitor services
• Insight into SAPA’s archival information systems and the implementation of the new standards, Records in Contexts (RiC)
• Support with administrative tasks relating to day-to-day archival operations
• If interested, insight into our offices in Lausanne and Zurich

Requirements

You hold a university degree, or are at an advanced stage of your studies in theatre studies or a related humanities discipline, and ideally intend to pursue a postgraduate qualification in archival studies (MAS ALIS). Alternatively, you already hold a qualification in the field of Information and Documentation (I&D) and wish to gain initial professional experience in a specialist archive.

You are interested in the specialist field of archiving ephemeral art forms and have an affinity for audiovisual and digital media carriers. Ideally, you already have initial experience in the archival sector, work independently, and enjoy operating in a multilingual (German/French) context.
