Fabienne Berger completed her ballet training in Lausanne and later in Sydney. After returning to Switzerland, she deepened her knowledge of modern jazz and modern dance and perfected the techniques of José Limón and Lester Horton in the USA. In 1982, back in Switzerland, she expanded her research into the origins of movement with yoga and aikido, which she also taught.

Her first solo work, Et l'autre, was awarded the prize of the Concours international de chorégraphie de Nyon and the prize of the city of Vernier in 1983. She subsequently founded the Compagnie Fabienne Berger, whose first performance Instemps passe was included in the final selection at the Bagnolet competition in 1985. The following piece, Les Figurants, was a finalist in the same competition and toured Europe for two years from 1988 to 1990. Numerous other works were created in the following years, including collaborations with video art.

Fabienne Berger was awarded the Prix jeunes créateurs pour la danse by the Fondation vaudoise pour la promotion et la création artistiques in 1989 and the Prix culturel de l'Etat de Fribourg in 2002 for her artistic work.
