Leopold Biberti

Leopold Biberti (1894–1969) was not only a gifted actor whose engagements took him from Bern, Zurich and Basel to Frankfurt and Berlin, but also a passionate traveller and talented photographer. His estate, which arrived at SAPA from Hamburg in June, contains countless private and business letters and photographs, as well as documentation of his journeys to the United States in the late 1930s. Equipped with a stills camera and a film camera, he and his brother Robert Biberti - singer and founding member of the renowned Berlin vocal ensemble the Comedian Harmonists - travelled by bus, train and aeroplane from the east to the west coast of the USA.
